Several pieces of steel plate stood upright and smashed together. There was a thin layer of screen on the steel plate. All this did not seem to be surprising. However, when water mixed with green pigments flows through the filter, the green pigment is left on the filter and then “collected†into an ad hoc container. The clear water flows away from the filter screen. At the National Major Scientific and Technological Achievements Exhibition, the “National Active Defensive Technology for Cyanobacterial Disasters in Urban Water Source Water Bodies†developed by the National Water Special Project Chaohu attracted a lot of attention from the audience.
The technology developer, Li Wenchao, a researcher at the Nanjing Institute of Geography and Limnology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, told reporters that the most important feature of this device is its design principle - fish such as squid, puff, fish, etc., will inhale water with their mouths, and will have algae and plankton. The creatures are filtered out as food, and then the water is released from the cocoons. Li Wenchao, who studies the ecological origin of aquatic organisms, got the design inspiration from the fish and called it "the robotic fish."
“This is a pure physical treatment method, without adding any chemicals or minerals, to avoid secondary pollution of the water.†Li Wenchao said that the layer of screens that the reporter saw is like a fishing rod, which is the core part of this equipment. . The cyanobacteria flow down from the sloping "face" and does not leave the surface. During the flow, it encounters a blade-like separator, and then the cyanobacteria remain on the surface.
Li Wenchao stated that impurities exceeding 3 microns in diameter are filtered out. Therefore, this "fish" will not only eat cyanobacteria, but also green algae, diatoms, and other impurities exceeding 3 microns in size will be the targets of filtration. The scope of application of the "fish" can be used to improve the water quality of urban water plants in addition to preventing cyanobacterial disasters. .
Contrast with efficiency is energy saving. Li Wenchao said that this "robot fish" was set up on a platform and was free to move. Its maximum speed was 10 kilometers per hour. A 50-kilowatt generator set was enough to provide full power for moving and handling blue-green algae. The cost of algae removal per ton of water is only 3-5 cents.
"The robotic fish" was successfully developed in June last year. It coincided with the cyanobacterial outbreak in the water source of Chaohu City, Anhui Province. The robotic fish was immediately put into actual combat. The threat of blue-green algae pollution in the region is basically eliminated, said Li Wenchao.
