BASF obtains patent license for lithium iron phosphate battery

Recently, BASF's global battery materials business unit announced that it has signed a technology licensing agreement with LiClPO4+C Licensing AG, a subsidiary of the Swiss Clariant Group, to obtain global production and sales rights for lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery materials.
LFP is a new cathode material used in the production of advanced lithium-ion batteries (LiB) for all types of LiB, especially for high-power types of LiB, such as hybrid vehicles (HV) and grid energy storage batteries. LFP intellectual property and BASF's current LiB nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) cathode material product portfolio form a strong complement.
According to Ralf Meixner, senior vice president of the global battery materials business unit at BASF, "After reaching an agreement with LiFePO4+C, BASF will become a global company that is authorized to produce and sell LiB materials under the Argonne National Laboratory and LiFePO4+C. Will give BASF a great competitive advantage, enabling us to fully meet the demand for battery materials in LiB applications."
BASF will establish a comprehensive battery material product line to become the world's leading supplier of single cell/battery functional materials and components and to promote the development of electric mobility.
