Petrobras to invest $4 billion in biofuels

The Brazilian energy giant Petrobras announced at the end of July 2011 that it is seeking to produce 5.6 billion liters of ethanol by 2015. Petrobras is expected to obtain 12% of the domestic market share. The company accounted for 3.3% of the market in 2010 and produced 1 billion liters of ethanol.

From now until 2015, Petrobras will invest 1.94 billion US dollars (1.4 billion US dollars), which will only be the investment in the ethanol market. This 70% will be used to increase production, including the construction of new grinding plants and brewing plants.

Petrobras plans to invest a total of $4.1 billion over the five-year period, $2.8 billion will be used for production and research, and $1.3 billion will be put into supply logistics.
