Fluvastatin, the first fully chemically synthesized cholesterol-lowering drug, is a hydroxyglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase inhibitor that converts HMG-CoA to 3-methyl-3, 5-dihydroxyvaleric acid. Fluvastatin has the advantages of relatively simple structure, selective effect and low incidence of adverse reactions compared with the existing natural or semi-synthetic HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors lovastatin, nevastatin and pravastatin , Is an excellent hypolipidemic drug.
